Good on Sharin Ebadi, and credit to the Nobel committee which has redeemed itself a little for last year's blatantly political award. Lots of comments out there about the Pope: I notice that many of the people who didn't want the Pope to receive the Nobel prize cite only his anti-abortion stance and the nonsense about the rubber johnnies. Let him retire with fellow senescent Thabo Mbeki to some comfortable loony bin and stop making a fool of himself. BUT - why aren't these same people also complaining that the bastard specifically REFUSED to condemn Saddam Hussein because that would be giving support to George Bush. He wouldn't call Saddam's regime evil, but was happy to use the label for homosexuals. Nothing can cancel out the contribution he made to the demise of the Soviet Union, but that comes damn close. For shame.
