BBC News does a weekly world news quiz that, considering the amount of data I ingest in a typical week I should regularly ace. However, the thing is devilishly tricky. Try and see how you do. Sometimes I am defeated by the "truth is stranger than fiction" phenomenon. You eliminate an answer that is too obvioulsy ridiculous to be true, and then you get whacked. For example:
Who were told this week to start growing moustaches?

A: Workers at the French tourist board, to avoid disappointing foreign visitors
B: Japanese troops in Iraq, so that they might blend in with the locals
C: Models working for designer Karl Lagerfeld, who wants facial hair to make a comeback this year
