BBC SPORT Olympics 2004 Full marks to Athens: "If there was one grumble, it would be that sports like tennis and football devalued the Games rather than enhanced them."

I think there were probably more grumbles than that, but amen, Brother. Wasn't it in Atlanta where tennis first made it's ridiculous appearance? How appropriate, considering the new low in Olympics history achieved there. Millionaires jetting in for a few sets of tennis in their crowded professional schedules. International soccer - today a form of athletic drama school more than sport. Po-faced tragic heroes trained to fall spectacularly and feign injury to the face when anybody attempts a sliding tackle on them at shoestring level. All the frantic appeals and upturned, plaintive palms. So much in character with the Olympics.

Please remove tennis and football from the next Olympics.

I went here to find some inspiration for a couple of replacement sports. I nominate the following for consideration as being worthier than tennis and football:

Subaquatic orienteering
(or Underwater rugby, for that matter)
Aeromodelling
Snooker
Darts
Flyfishing
Water-skiing
Lawn bowling
Woodball
Powerboating
Basque Pelota
Rollerblading

Monster Trucks, Skydiving, Chess, Hot Dog Eating, Bullfrog Long Jumping, Chili Cook-off, Binge Drinking (UK stag parties only), Tiddlywinks...
