Just the other day I was thinking I hadn't seen Tariq Ali out and about in some time. Been rather quiet.

One answer may be that he's been tired and has been sleeping. You can afford that luxury when you have your spiel down pat and merely need to cough it out when waking ocassionally between naps.

Oh but look, here he is today tossing off the Iraqi elections in one handy phrase: "Create a new elite [that's the elections bit], give it funds and weaponry to build a new army and let them make the country safe for the corporations."

And for good measure a nice Nazi tie-in is always a reliable standby: "At the Nuremberg trials, Ribbentrop, the German foreign minister, was charged for providing the justification for Hitler's pre-emptive strike against Norway. Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Jack Straw in a dock of the future? Unlikely, but desirable."

I wonder what his thoughts are about putting Saddam in the dock.
