My new hero is Katka Neumannova. From the official Turin website:

"But perhaps the most heart-warming achievement was that of Czech Katerina Neumannova.

In five previous visits to the Olympics, including one as a mountain biker in Atlanta in 1996, the perennial runner-up had won four silver medals and a bronze but had never taken gold.

At the age of 33, she won the very last race of her Olympic career, raising her arms aloft and screaming with joy as she crossed the finish line in the 30-km freestyle race.

Moments later, she was hugging her two-year-old daughter, who had run on to the snow to greet her victorious mother."

Not a dry eye anywhere!

CNN's take.
